Second Story Residential Addition

This house was originally built as a ranch. Maiocco Structural Engineering performed the structural engineering for the second story addition.

The original intention of the addition design was to use conventional wood trusses at the roof over the new second floor. Conventional wood trusses economize on lower level structural work by spanning across the building depth, but create an attic full of obstructions.

The owner and architect were not aware that specially-configured "bonus room" trusses were available. Maiocco Structural Engineering suggested their use, thus making a useable attic space possible.
